I loved the simplicity of the story, and the depth of the message that Wolff wanted to share behind those stories. Jolly is at times irritating, but this is because she is embarrassed and ashamed of her ignorance, and Wolff shows this subtly so that you begin to double think your irritation towards her. I find it interesting that Wolff knew instinctively that this style of writing which didn’t even have a name at the time would be the perfect format to address bright but struggling readers.
